ARk

We dream of becoming a community of faith that calls, forms, and sends young professionals to be salt and light in the Church and the city of Portland.

By offering opportunities for discipleship growth, social gatherings, and works of mercy, we want to become a community that welcomes outsiders, strengthens insiders, and equips them for the next stage in life.

You are invited to join us for our weekly Young Adult Mass, every Sunday at 7 p.m. ARK offers regular social events, from our First Friday Holy Hour + Social Hour to other seasonal social events at St. Michael’s and around Portland. Sign-up for our monthly newsletter and join our WhatsApp Group to learn about our upcoming events.

  • What does ARK stand for?
ARK stands for Activities for Recreation and Koinonia. Over the years it has also been used to refer to the The Ark of Salvation and has since taken on a new meaning of it’s own in encompassing the Young Adult membership and zeal found with the St. John Society, both in Portland and in Washington DC.

Who is the ARK community for?
Ark is a Young Adult community made for St. Michael’s parishoners and newcomers between the ages of 22-35. That being said, if you are a year or two outside this range, we still welcome you! Many young adults in their 20s and 30s, both single and married, attend our events. For Young Adults under 21, we have our Newman Center which works with college age students.

    What if I’m not Catholic?
We welcome you! ARK is a community open for Christians of all denominations, as well as non-Chrisitians who are curious about the faith. If you are not yet Catholic or Christian, we encourage you to explore Christianity through our Alpha Program (or our Theological Academy lectures. For those seriously considering becoming Catholic, RCIA (Rite of Christian Initation for Adults) is a great next step.
