Throughout the Church, October has traditionally been the month of the mission, a month dedicated to renewing the whole Church and each of Her members in our missionary identity. So this month, the Sunday homilies will focus on the motives we have for mission, the reasons we need to evangelize, to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to each person. We invite you to pray each day this month the Missionary Prayer (below), and to specifically reach out to share Christ with those in your life who don't know Him through the power of the Holy Spirit.
You can follow along with the recordings of each Sunday homily via the homily podcast.
MISSIONARY PRAYER
Lord, when you send us forth to sow our hands overflow with riches.
Your word fills us with joy when we scatter it upon open ground.
Lord, when you send us forth to sow we feel poverty in our souls.
We spread the seed that you have given us and wait uncertainly for the harvest.
And to us, this uncertain sowing seems to be a waste of time,
and it seems to us that there is little seed for the immensity of our fields.
And we are taken aback by the disproportion of your command and our strength,
but faith lets us understand that you are at our side in this task.
And we go on sowing, through the night and the morning fog,
we poor prophets, trusting that you are using us as your humble tools.
Glory to you, Good Father, who gave us your Word, the True Seed,
and by the grace of the Holy Spirit, sow it in the Church through us.
Amen.
