Prayer and Fasting for Peace

  • St. Michael the Archangel 424 Southwest Mill Street Portland, OR, 97201 United States (map)

In response to the tragic violence in the Holy Land, we join with the Church in the Holy Land and throughout the world in praying for peace. This week, we would like to pray for peace with great intentionality and commitment.  Our Cor ad Cor and Thursday adoration times will be devoted to prayer for peace in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, the Prince of Peace.

In the Holy Land, Latin Patriarch Cardinal Pizzabella has called for all Christians on Tuesday, October 17, to pray and fast for peace.  United to our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, we invite all parishioners to join in the day of prayer and fasting for peace on Tuesday, October 17. The Mass on Tuesday evening will be a Mass for peace.

In addition, on Thursday, October 19, we will pray a rosary from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (at the top of each hour) in the church, asking Our Lady, Queen of Peace, to intercede for all God’s beloved children who live in the Holy Land. For those who can’t make it to the church, simply pray the rosary at home for this intention. Sign up below, to join the rosary chain, either at the church or from home!

Please read the statement of the US Bishops on this situation HERE, and the invitation of Cardinal Pizzabella to the day of prayer and fasting HERE.

And invite friends and family who don’t regularly go to St. Michael’s to join in the prayer for peace this week, with great confidence that the Lord will hear our prayers and respond.
